Accelerating innovation development and scaling climate-smart agriculture to drive a transformation in food systems: A high level roundtable

Brief Description

In the context of the urgent need to transform food systems to achieve the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement, climate-smart agriculture (CSA) has emerged as a useful approach to operationalize action across scales. However, CSA actions will need to be accelerated beyond current levels for a transformation to be realised.

CCAFS has established a Learning Platform on Partnerships and Capacity for Scaling CSA, which endeavours to facilitate global and continental-wide partnerships and build capacity to enable CSA action at scale. This event will bring invited representatives involved in scaling CSA to help inform future activities of the Learning Platform.

Session Objectives

To identify key actions to scale climate-smart agriculture which can be facilitated by the CCAFS Learning Platform on Partnerships and Capacity for Scaling CSA.
To develop partnerships to scale CSA through the Learning Platform.

Climate change is advancing fast. To transform agricultural food systems, delivery models of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) need to step up, benefitting from millions to hundreds of millions of farmers. At the same time, the global donor landscape is changing, offering new opportunities for cooperation and learning.

How can we accelerate innovation development and scaling processes? Results from a recent review of CCAFS scaling activities showed that innovation development and scaling are iterative processes that go hand in hand. Key support for these processes are funding and learning formats that are responsive to the different phases of innovation development and scaling!

This side event aims to accelerate innovation development and scaling. It will bring together 20 selected stakeholders from policy, research, civil society and private sector. This insight group will outline the needed research & action area(s), formulate the mandate and provide guidance for the CCAFS Learning Platform for Capacity Building and Scaling CSA to dive deeper into this topic.

As a part of this insight group, invitees will have the opportunity to

Contribute their insights to a shared understanding on innovation development and scaling processes;
Share their experiences to help shaping funding and learning formats that are responsive to innovation development and scaling;
Use their networks to feed our process, and use the joint group’s advocacy to feed our insights and learnings back to these networks, and to the wider scaling community!
