Brief description
Agriculture around the globe faces a current and impending crisis because of the increasing impacts of the need to ensure food security in a world faced with climate change. Awareness of the options and the institutional support to make climate smart choices is a critical enabler. It is therefore imperative that all governments, international organizations, farmer organizations, private sector, financial institutions and research institutions have the information needed to support the adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).
There is a need for an integrated knowledge-intensive approach to catalyze and rally action to accelerate the scaling up of CSA within and across regions. As the sole global multi-stakeholder platform for CSA, the Global Alliance for Climate Smart Agriculture (GACSA) is promoting a better understanding of how climate change is affecting farmers, and the key barriers to the adoption of CSA.
Countries have developed their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC’s) so we know the pledges made and the work ahead of us. The focus must now be on implementation.
As a contribution to the proceedings and discourse at the 5th Global Science Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture, GACSA is organising a side event under the theme “Let’s work together to promote CSA investments in the ASEAN Region”
The side event will showcase two pilot projects from the ASEAN region implemented, and share experiences of local farmers’ adapting to extreme weather and increasing their incomes. These pilot projects are examples at the grassroots level of the importance of global match making, to make sure effective projects can attract funding and deliver concrete outcomes.
Session Objectives
- Share innovative approaches to develop a framework on what is necessary to initiate a matchmaking facility between different stakeholders in CSA; and
- Provide an opportunity for an interactive dialogue; sharing and discussing methodologies and metrics to guide investment strategies and measure results achieved;
- Provide regional evidence of successful scaling approaches for CSA, drawing lessons and experiences from local farmers on adapting to extreme weather;
Expected Outcomes
- Enhanced collaboration, and identification of potential synergies and partnerships, amongst international, regional and national stakeholders and initiatives for the implementation of CSA;
- Shared lessons and best practices in scaling-up and integrating CSA into agricultural investment programmes, and in designing, financing and implementing CSA programmes across different regions; and
- Strengthened existing CSA Alliances in Asia and commitment to CSA and GACSA, resulting in involvement and ownership of GACSA members.
