Brief Background
This session will focus on what the outcomes from the UN Climate Action Summit that will have been held on 23 September in New York mean for building resilient food and agriculture systems.
It will highlight how the food and agriculture can respond to A Call for Action on Adaptation and Resilience and initiatives that underpin with particularly relevance to the food and agriculture to the food and agriculture sector. These are summarised below with links to more details on the initiatives.
Partnership for a ‘Just Rural Transition’ (JRT) to resilient food, land-use and eco-systems aims to deliver the shift that is needed to feed a growing population without collapse of the natural systems that sustain life.
LIFE-AR (Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience) led by the Least Developed Country (LDC) group aims to drive historic shift towards a more effective and more ambitious global climate response.
InsuResilience Global Partnership Vision 2025 aims to strengthen the resilience of the poor and vulnerable through a scale-up of risk finance and risk transfer solutions.
GCA Agriculture and Food Security for small-scale food producers aims to support 300 million smallholders to enhance their resilience, incomes and food security, and reverse ecological decline.
African Adaptation Initiative (AAI) aims to enhance adaptation action in Africa by access to climate services; strengthening policies; action on the ground; and increasing access to climate finance and investment.
Session Objectives
The session has two objectives:
- To share the outcomes of the UN Climate Action Summit focusing on food and agriculture systems.
- To identify opportunities for participants at the conference to be part of ambitious actions to build resilient food and agriculture systems.
